TESTIMONIAL
Sergeant Mark Vaught, Vinton Police Department
Vinton, Virginia. Three officers respond to a possible burglary at 1:10 a.m. Two of them soon leave because the suspect is nowhere in sight. The third officer surveys the area using the ITT night vision goggles that his department had acquisitioned just ten days earlier.
Suddenly, through the goggles, he spots a man running toward a suspicious parked car. The man doesn't see the officer, but the officer sees the suspect clearly enough to notice that he's carrying a large object. The man tosses the object into the parked vehicle and prepares to leave the scene. Then the officer turns on his lights and stops the suspect from leaving.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, the officer discovers that the large object the man had been carrying is a safe from a local business. Even though it was pitch dark, the officer had clearly seen the entire crime and was prepared to make the arrest.
